Vaccines
At present, tourists entering Jorge Chávez International Airport will not be consulted about their vaccines. Peru recommends vaccination to travelers (tourists) that visit jungle areas under 2,300 meters over sea level. Specially, the vaccine for yellow fever.

If the visit includes a trip to the jungle, it is obligatory to have the corresponding seal for the vaccine against yellow fever. If you do not have the vaccine, the sanitary officials will oblige the tourist to vaccinate at that moment.
Tip: Remember you must vaccinate 10 days before going to the Jungle. You may do so at any international vaccination center located in the city.
Sanitary Conditions
Generally speaking, they are good. Throughout Peru, and, mainly in the North and in the Jungle, special protection measures must be taken against mosquito bites, in order to avoid yellow fever, dengue and malaria amongst other illnesses. Vaccination against Yellow Fever and prophylaxis against malaria are recommended at risk areas. Over 3.000 m high you may experience altitude illness or "Soroche". At the highlands, and, in the coast you should have the correct protection against the sunrays in order to avoid sun burnt. As a whole, you should avoid drinking tap water. Risk of gastrointestinal infections throughout the country should makes us take special care with food and drinking water. You should avoid them at economical restaurants or supermarkets. Typhoid fever and hepatitis A vaccines are recommended. Attention at clinics and hospitals is adequate, especially in Lima. In the case of mountaineers, it is indispensable to have a medical insurance, and, it is highly recommendable to hire a professional guide.
