Throughout the world there are eight bear species, and, only one of them inhabits South America.  The Spectacled Bear or Andean Bear is the largest in South America, and, the largest terrestrial mammal after the tapir.

They inhabit the Andes Cordillera and distribute in a great variety of habitats, at altitudes between 250 meters above sea level up to 4750 meters above sea level. In Peru an estimate of a minimum population of  5750 bears live in adult status. The Spectacled Bear is a typical species of the High Jungle.

Sloths do not belong to the bear family, even though they are usually called sloth

bears.  Sloths are nocturnal and diurnal, solitary and herbivores. Furthermore, the female sloths are always in groups, while the male sloths are solitary. Usually, sloths  spend a great deal of their time over the tree tops where they can avoid their predators and can find food and water. Their slow way of displacement makes it difficult to locate them in the forest, and, from time to time they go down to the ground (mainly to urinate and defecate).

Sloths' height range from 41 to 74 centimeters.  They have a small flattened and rounded face, big eyes, a flattened nose and they do not have ears.
