Animals Mystical the Otorongo or Jaguar
The Otorongo or Jaguar, is the largest feline in America.  Likewise, it is also the only representative of the Panthera gender found in this continent.  It lives in the tropical jungles as the Amazon.

In nature, the Otorongo is found in two basic colors. In the most common coloring the skin is yellow and red with black spots. The other color is the melanistic form where yellow is replaced by dark grey.

The weight of a male adult Otorongo ranges from 190 to 300 pounds, and, the female from 130 to 200 pounds. The length from the tip of the nose to the tail is 1.70 a 2.30 m., and, the lifespan is that of 20 years. The base coat is generally a tawny yellow with

black irregular spots (called rosettes).  Some may even be black with spots of the same color.  In spite of its heavy look, the Jaguar is very fast.  It runs and swims large distances. The Otorongos are capable of roaring, but usually they grunt, howl, and, even mew.

The Jaguar is almost nocturnal, and has a huge ability to see in darkness; during the day it rests in hidden places between rocks or the thick undergrowth. Jaguars hunt by stalking their prey, hiding near their path or where they drink water.

Above all, Jaguars feed on peccaries, deer, monkeys, tapirs, and, other small mammals; besides birds, fish, crocodiles, caymans, lizards, snakes, turtles, and, their eggs, even putrid flesh. Usually, where they find abundant food, they will return to eat several consecutive nights.

In average, the gestation period of the adult female Otorongo lasts 100 days.  Usually, they give birth to two cubs, but they can even have four. Just before the birth, the male abandons the female, and, she takes care of her cubs alone: she keeps them in caves or other refuges, carries them with her, and, teaches them to hunt during their first year, until they can do so alone.

Today, the Otorongo is in danger of extinction, that is, the number of Jaguars is dramatically  declining and is endangered with extinction from Earth.  Therefore, hunting, capture, transportation, possession and commerce of the Otorongo or any products and sub products of these species is prohibited all over the national territory.
