Situation and Climate
Machu Picchu is situated in the south eastern Andes, in the valley of the river Huatanay, in the district of Machupicchu, Urubamba Province, Cuzco department, kilometer 112.5 (70 miles), north east of the city of Cusco. A huge Jungle of imposing mountains surrounds the holy city.

Between the months of June to October, it has a brilliant sun in the mornings that warm up the temperature, even though you can feel cold in the shade.  Nevertheless, at night, temperatures descend approximately up to 10 degrees centigrade. The climate is temperate, cold and slightly dry during these months; it is warm and humid during the summer months, reaching an average per month rainfall that ranges between 347.9

millimeters and 33.8 millimeters in summer and winter respectively. This climate highly favors corn cultivation.  There is heavy rainfall from December to April, followed by intense and brilliant sun.  We recommend umbrellas as protection from possible rain.
