Sipan is one of the most important worldwide archaeological discoveries in the last years. In Peru, in 1987, Peruvian archaeologist Walter Alva together with his team discovered the Tomb of the Lord of Sipan. This finding can be compared in importance with that of other rulers found in history many centuries ago.
The discovery of the Royal Tombs of the Lord of Sipan is an important landmark in the history of Peru and that of America, due to the fact that, it is the first time that a royal burial of a majestic character from ancient Peru (prior to the Incas) and of America as a whole, has been found intact and without traces of plundering.

ADN studies of the remains of the Lord of Sipan have led to the conclusions that this 1,67 meters tall warrior who died at the age of 40, is the descendent in fourth generation of the Old Lord of Sipan, whose tomb was found below the first one. Thanks to the ADN investigations and the archaeological investigations carried out by Peruvian scientists, it has been possible to recreate the facial features, skin color, eyes, hair, and, age of this dignitary and the environment. The tomb of the Lord of Sipan was richly embellished with ceramics, textiles and exquisitely carved jewels in copper, gold and silver with precious stones. |
